The plinth and cover on my Dual CS505-2 turntable were rather tatty after 30 years, so I built this to smarten things up and make the form match the function.

This beauty of a valve radio was bought for just £2 from a boot sale. It’s a Roberts, valve, shortwave, and portable..

Roberts Rambler Radio at Her Majesty’s Prisons
Roberts Radio’s have held a Royal charter for many years, and rightly so. This has nothing to do with the fact that the Rambler model was the only radio which inmates of her majesty’s prisons were allowed to have. Continue reading “Roberts Rambler Radio at Her Majesty’s Prisons”
NAD 4225 Tuner. Not all it’s cracked up to be
This beauty was acquired from a well known high street pawn brokers for £20. A bit dirty, but otherwise working fine. As usual with 2nd hand purchases the lid had to come off for a nose about inside. Continue reading “NAD 4225 Tuner. Not all it’s cracked up to be”
Valve Headphone Amplifier
Vinyl after dark denied because my Mission Cyrus amplifier has no headphone output. I need something to connect to the tape out RCA sockets. I considered DIY, but it would have cost as much as a bought one to make anything that looked half decent. Research showed that a valve amp could be had for the same price as a solid state one. This is the physical size limit of my collection. That doesn’t mean that I’m not still collecting. It does mean that I will be getting rid of some and replacing it with better quality recordings or more interesting stuff. 50 odd albums went to the charity shop last week. I doubt I will miss those Phil Collins, or the Village people for that matter..
Paloma Faith is 200th side on Goldring E3
When I changed the cartridge on my turntable for a Goldring E3 I also positioned an electronic tally counter nearby to monitor usage.
Paloma Faiths “The Architect” was the 200th side to be played. At 20 minutes per side that approximates to 67 hours of playback so far. Continue reading “Paloma Faith is 200th side on Goldring E3”
My First Turntable Dual 505-2
In 1984 the Dual CS505-2 was the go to budget turntable for the HiFi enthusiast. I treated myself to the standard version for the princely sum of £80.
